I downloaded the free Warped Tour 2010 from Itunes and didn’t know anybody, so this is off the cuff and on the fly. Helluva lotta rock steady…
Battle Royale – The World Alive – Prog-Core with a dynamite keybs.
The Ballad Of Froggy McNasty – Voodoo Glow Skulls – What is it about bands with the word voodoo in their name? They all sound like variations on big band plus two tone and here a bit of ye old fashoned rock as well.
Skanking Fool – The Uptones – a)best band name I’ve heard all year and 2)wtf, is it twotone goes to Warped year?
Sleeper – The Swellers – Nice and crunch punk rock but not so altery, kinda mainstream.
Gala Bleeds (Make Way For Man) – Set Your Goals – Modern hardcore, with a sing scream vocalist and a coupla sing screamers er, harmonizing (?) in the background. Almost makes you wonder what they are singing about… I said, almost.
Elephants – Our Last Night – The reason why it is so hard to hear hardcore is become it isn’t about melody it is about texture. Two vocalists (or the same one before the exorcism) one kinda sweet and one awful harsh.
Celtic Storm – The Mighty Regis – Oh some irish whistle and toots like they are right off the boat and reached for the first album they can find and it is the Pogues Rum, Sodomy And the Lash. I thought Black 47 changed the game on these bangs back in the late 80s.
I Vampiri – The Impalers – Off Blood, Rum and Reggae -album name of the year. The chick singer is pretty good and the rhythm section does what it should.
Cadillac One – GBH – Great little rocker.
Keep My Head High – Echo Movement – Like real reggae (‘cept the lead singer doesn’t have the patois) and very, very melodic. Almost lover’s rock.
I Love You – Dirty Little Rabbits – Oooh, great name, sexy little nasty rock band.
Good Old Day’s – Deal Gone Bad – Skank songs for a new world.
Thicker Than Water – Cobra Skull – Finally, some good old fashioned English style punk rock
It Was Written In Blood – Bring me the Horizon – What gives? You can’t tell band name from album name (Suicide Season) from song name. More like Hardish-core. Pretty good.
Bazooka Joe – The B Foundation – Another child of Sublime, pretty good ska rock and the screaming of the title is pretty fun stuff.
The American Scream – Alkaline Trio – These cats are on the mainstage -pretty good rock ordinaire.
In sum: everything is pretty good but it is on stage where they’ll have to prove it
