Vanaprasta Explain “Runaway” Cover -by Alyson Camus

I told you about this local LA band, Vanaprasta, covering Kayne West‘s ‘Runaway’ at the Echo for their second anniversary a few weeks ago. This is what guitarist Cameron Dmytryk had about to say to the Comet.com, about their choice:

‘We wanted badly to do something different and exciting tonight, not only for newcomers but most importantly for all the die hards that have become best friends of ours over the last 730 days. Could we have hit up the party store and thrown confetti and glitter or some shit all over them? Sure probably. Could have been joyous too…but we decided instead just to open with a cover of Kanye West‘s “Runaway,” a song that regardless of what you think of the man exemplifies a new maturity and progression in modern music, a track that honestly was not hard to make the crossover to rock. It flows like a rock song but has all the glitz and flow of today’s quality hip hop.’

And they don’t regret it, that’s true, the song was really well received by people:

‘Fuck ya, shit was dope! Friends and fans raising their glasses to scumbags and douchebags to Smiley’s smash, Taylor’s bass fuzz, and Steven’s excitable vocals’

The story even says that Steven Wilkin (the singer of the band) once met Kanye West in an elevator, Kanye told Steven he liked his kicks and asked him where he had got them, to which Steven replied Nordstrom‘s.
