Under The Sheets With Ellie Goulding -by Sara Kaloudis

A recently up and coming artist, Ellie Goulding, is hitting it hard right now. I found that her song, ‘No Guns and Horses’, combined with ‘Make Love’ by Daft Punk, was a great collaboration forming ‘No Guns and Horses, Just Make Love’. Her original is slightly more upbeat and poppy, but when you add ‘Make Love’ you get that simplified Daft Punk composition with the beauty of Ellie Goulding’s voice. Monsieur Adi had his hand in this and I thoroughly enjoyed the listen. It, to me, is like an acoustic electronic sort of sound. It’s not as hard as most electrifying Daft Punk songs but rather calming and almost therapeutic.

However Ellie Goulding didn’t come to me in her Daft Punk form. I was first given the pleasure of listening to her song, ‘Lights’, remixed by Bassnectar (Lorin Ashton). A song that I was surprised to hear come from him. Its slightly more eerie than the infamous dirty beats and hard bass that Lorin is known for. Infact I was slightly reminded of Deadmau5 with a hint of Flux Pavillion. You still get a taste of the nectar just with not so much of the bass. Its hard hitting when I want it to be and entrancing in all the right places. It honestly shows a different dimension to Bassnectar, a slight maturity in his music. If this sounds appealing, I’d suggest stripping away a few of Bassnectar’s layers and giving this song a listen.
