Two Door Cinema Club released a new song, called “Changing of the Seasons” and holy crap I forgot how great they were. The trio hailing from the UK identifying as “alteronica” have impressed me since I first downloaded their free iTunes single forever ago; they’ve only gotten better since then.
“Changing of the Seasons” is beautiful. The intricacy of the different beats and sounds used has always been their forte, but this tune brings it above and beyond anything they’ve done before. Well, that and the lyrics. “When you say you won’t forget me, well I can tell you that’s untrue, ‘cos every day since you left me, I’ve thought less and less of you. And I’ve warn out all the reasons to keep on knocking at your door; could be the changing of the seasons, but I don’t love you anymore.” Haaaaarsh. However, totally a perfect breakup jam.
Alex Trimble’s voice sounds the best it’s ever been, his range at an all time high. It takes a certain kind of voice to be able to sing alongside electronic music and have it not sound lame or campy, but he does it with seeming ease. All of the complicated elements of this song make it catchy and fun, but also an interesting listen if you’re into breaking down different pieces of songs, because this has a lot to offer. However, it could definitely be a hit on the radio and played the parties because TDCC has that style about them; classic club beats but with so much more to offer for real fans. They’ve the perfect balance, making them the best band out there that uses electronic music along with real instruments.
I can’t wait to see what they do next.
