Two Albums – First take: Marina and the Diamonds and Beach Fossil by Iman Lababedi

I am never gonna write about how bands can’t sustain it through the end of the album. These two
a) self name
b) debut
c) albums
do sustain it to the end and that ain’t the problem.
Brooklyn’s Beach Fossil are a, well imagine the Feelies playing plus melodic, less electric songs, or Belle and Sebastian on a diet or The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart only surfier and that is Beach Fossil. I bought four songs and loved each one and so decided to spring for the album. The album is quite as good but it gets a little, well, boring, over half an hour. All of a song, all one song, one great song. But built for the EP.
I bought the Marina albecause because “I Am Not A  robot” is one of my fave tracks of the year. But she doesn’t have a song # 2 (that I’ve noticed, it may be lurking) and her voice is somewhat on the abrasive side. and the songs are kinda dowdy while dealing with the by the numbers fisty and frantic love laments. And here is caveat number two: it can take me awhile to get used to a different type of voice. Still, I recommend steriods.
