Touche Amore's "Whale Belly" Reviewed

Touche Amore released a new tune called "Whale Belly".  I haven't really listened to them much lately, so I was eager to hear this new release.  It's a part of a split they're doing with The Casket Lottery, which will be released as a 7" on October 2nd.

The 1:58 powerhouse tune is an intense flurry of short-term riffs, powerful drums, and Bolm's vocals are stronger than ever.  I think the guitar stands out so much and that combined with the perfect drumming makes this song so perfect.  The lyrics and Bolm's vox sound a bit like newer Bring Me The Horizon, which I really like.  It's that scratchy-screamy quality that either makes someone adore a band or despise them.  In this case, it totally made me remember how much I love TA, and it's awesome that now I want to listen to them even more.

It has a punk rock feel, in its to and fro of soft gentle melody and hardcore riffs.  It takes on an oldschool scene persona that draws you in and makes just one listen nowhere near enough.  The way it just drops off at the end and catches you off guard is just icing on the cake.  Too many times do musicians drag out a tune, but with "Whale Belly", it's simple and to the point.
Touche Amore's done it again.
