It's not quite that I am reneging on years of loathing… but, well… one of my best friends told me how much she loved "Re:Stacks" and insisted I listen to it and somewhere around the 10th time… lo and behold, I kinda liked it.
Justin Vernon is a lugubrious bore but his songs can hook you if you don't have your guard up and while his falsetto at first sounds a form of torture Obama has made illegal against Al Qaeda terrorists (or soldiers: tomatoes, tomartoes), it has grown on me after being inescapable for years.
So, yeah, I got a tix for the September 19th gig at Radio City Music Hall -he is also there on the following day.
And to get you in the mood… here is a recent setlist from Arizona:
1. Perth
2. Minnesota, WI
3. Towers
4. Flume
5. Wash.
6. Hinnon, TX
7.. Holocene
8. Blood Bank
9.. re: Sttacks
10.Skinny Love
11. Lisbon, OH
12. Beth/Rest
Encore
13. The Wolves
14. For Emma
Hmmm, awful precious, right? hat's with naming all the songs on his second album after US cities? And except for ending with "Emma" there doesn't seem to be any more modulation in the song placement. No surprises wither. Sure, he is in Tucson, Arizona, so nobody was there any way, but even still: this is a dullards setlist…
I guess we will find out…
