Myspace is a pretty cool thing. You can discover a band a day, or they can discover you.
This Awakening, a screamo/hardcore band from California, is one of these new discoveries. “Once and for All” takes you through what is a blizzard of sound. Melodic, talented voice and raw, genuine, uncleaned screaming is a combination that is lacking in the industry. And if this song is a blizzard, then “Never Forget Your Water Wings” must be the biggest storm the world has ever encountered. Almost Saosin-like in the harmonies and the deep captivating screaming keeps you hanging on to every note and every riff.
“Even Megan Fox Looks Better on Myspace” is what seems to be my favorite song by TA. Not the first time I’ve heard a song like this vocal-wise, but the almost choppy guitars and the drums keeping it all together keep this song on the border of a breakdown and a loud, noisy, crazy mess.
“Don’t Worry, This Song Isn’t About You” is entrancing in more than one way. The beginning has you hooked like a good story line and that hook grows and grows until you don’t need it to follow anymore. The guitars after the intro are incredible which shows me that This Awakening are more than your average unsigned screamo/hardcore band. Never knowing if the next line will bring screaming or singing, they keep you on the edge of your seat.
This Awakening woke me up.
