What do you get when you mix disco funk grooves with psychedelic, blues driven guitar riffs? Add in some minimal synth work over smooth, soothing vocals and you’ve got quite a combination! Until earlier this evening I’m not sure I would have been able to answer my own question, but thanks to a e-mail from a local music venue announcing that a band called Boombox will be performing in a few days, I think I’ve come up with quite a good guess. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it has done nothing but freshen up my evening as these jams have flowed right into my funky bone.
Always on the lookout for new artists and live music, I decided to give these guys a listen and was immediately caught up in the toe tapping frenzy. After continuous listens to Boombox’s Downriverelectric, I’m certain that this refined rock, upbeat dance album will keep me intrigued for quite some time. Highlights so far include “Headchange”, “Showboat”, “Watergun”, and “Shakedown Street.”
