These Days: Wednesday, August 6th, 2015

Lou Reed performing in 1983.

Recorded: Thursday is death day for recorded music, unless you are in the market for Macklemore’s lachrymose “Growing Up” -a stomach churning little pop smarm for his poor baby girl. The only way this song matters to the kid is if Macklemore dies in a plane crash before she’s six months old. Yeah, I am listening to Street Hassle for no good reason except somebody mentioned Lou the other day and I thought, you know, his name doesn’t show up in conversation as much as it use to.

Race For The Presidency: Rudy Giuliani on the GOP Debate: “I worked for Ronald Reagan. I’m an Eleventh Commandment guy — ‘Don’t attack other Republicans. Only attack if they attack you.” That’s one name for him.

Live: After four concerts in five days, on the sixth I rest! The best? James Taylor.

News: US Drones hit Syria out of Turkey, and you aren’t there. Not for nothing, but I think it is kinda horrible the way we can have a war without our soldiers being in harms way. It’s a complete reversal, now civilians die while soldiers play on the XBox. There must be a price to pay for war, it can’t be antiseptic.

In The Studio: Ryan Adams covering all of 1989 -Tay said she might pass out… It is a terrific album and should withstand the treatment with ease. Check out a coupla seconds here. The problem with Bob Lefsetz recently lambast of the singer is simple: he thinks Max Martin is responsible for 1989, when as Ryan will prove and as a listen to the demos already does proves, it’s all about the songs.
