Lately I’ve really been enjoying angsty pop punk and, ever since I found out the Warped Tour lineup, The Story So Far has made their way onto all my playlists. Â Their energy and fantastic sound has promptly put them in the forefront of all the songs I listen to.
Their music video for “Roam” is great. Â Though a year old, this is still probably one of their most well-known songs. Â The “You have no idea how unproductive it is to fall in and out of you as often as I do” is a commonly reposted line all over the internet, but is a great lyric nonetheless. Â As is “Never again will I let someone in”.
The video is adorable. Â It’s filled with concert footage, which just inspires me to go to as many of their shows as possible. Â It looks absolutely crazy fun. Â The clips in between of the band just being silly really let you see their true colours, not just some totally hardcore band guys. Â It’s honest and simple, which is all it needs to be.
What I love about the “pop punk” genre is how raw and powerful it is. Â TSSF is a bit of a harder pop punk band, but regardless, they pack a serious punch and, along with The Wonder Years, totally own the scene. Â Also, at any of those bands’ shows, there’s a strong male population, and a strong sense of community. Â There’s way less bubblegum pop fans, and far more support and care taken with each other, because those shows can get kinda risky and dangerous if you’re not careful. Â It’s nice when people look out for you.
This song is great. Â The drums are insane, and that’s the backbone of it all. Â Parker Cannon’s voice is iconic, strong and powerful. Â The way that the bass and guitars mesh together and create this feeling in me, and all their other fans, of pure jubilation and excitement, a need to jump around and scream the lyrics. Â Because that is what pop punk is all about. Â This tune is the epitome of that. Â From the lyrics to the sound, this song is the perfect angry teenager punk masterpiece.
“And lately I’ve been feeling grey but today I’m alright no thanks to you.”
