Lost cells and dead giraffes

During single greatest moments in all “The Hangover” movies,  Zach Galifianakis rants about why losing your cell phone was worse than watching somebody die in front of you. Now you either find this abrasively obnoxiously or bad tempered funny. I’m among the latter and so give “The Hangover Part Three” a very borderline pass.

Gone is the hungover amnesia framing device of the first two movies, this time the Wolf Gang , Brad Cooper, Ed Helms and the one who always goes kidnapped are on the way to rehab after Alan (Zach) goes off his meds and the one who always gets kidnapped gets kidnapped by a spectacularly wasted use of John Goodman, till the Gang return Mr Chow (Ken Yeong) and $42M in gold to Goodman.

The trip takes em to Tijuana and eventually back to the scene of the crime in the first movie, Las Vegas. Most of this isn’t much but sometimes Zach is too bizarre to be ignored and the break in at Ceasar’s Palace is pretty much fun. The Heather Graham cameo is a disappointment and I mentioned, Goodman was a terrible idea and an insane waste. The boys have no chemistry and the pure weirdness of it all reaches a plateau of creepiness when Zach meets the baby, now a child, from the first movie. A little less over the top than than # 2, and the better for it, but also not much of a comedy. Except for Zach, of course. It is scary to imagine the movies without him, they would sink out of sight. Plus a wedding at the end! It is all over now by the way, so we can all go back what we were doing before we were so rudely interrupted.

Music: The music is pretty good and plentiful” “Mmmbop” to the death of a giraffe, “It’s My Life” as Zach’s daddy dies in the background, a karoake “Hurt” from Mr. Chow. It is really quite amusing.
