The Great Gary Wilson Is Back!

It has been two years since rock nyc interviewed one of the top singer songwriters of our times, the unspeakable genius that is Gary Wilson. Pushing his album, Electric Endicott, a genre defying work jumping hoops thru jazz, soul, and a unique weirdly eccentric vision of the world so completely Gary Wilson that once you've heard it once you will remember it forever.  One of the best albums of 2010.

Gary Wilson also played Glassland which I missed. One date only and I couldn't break my plans. More is the pity.

Three years after Electric Endicott Gary has announced his return to the world of pop music with an upcoming release, Alone With Gary Wilson, more songs about difficult relationships with Linda, Sandy, Karen and Lisa. The girls who interrupt his equilabrium and send him… on a "Sea Cruise"?  That's the name of the song he has downloaded on Soundcloud. Well, rather "Soundcloud 2013", probably so we don't mistake it for a cover of Frankie Ford's song, which we might since punctuated by horns it has a 50s vibe, a sort of classic rock but not really.

As tends to happen with Wilson, he defies category, and goes its own way with a strange floating desire: a yearning want at the root of the song. Wilson plays all the instruments himself and the saxophone lead instrument is just completely beautiful, taking over completely during the bridge.

People seem to think Gary is an acquired taste and I just don't hear it. This is a mainstream pop song that twists a little of center but it still sounds wonderful. A really wonderful love song.
