In our sixth year over here at rock nyc, we win some, we lose some, we work hard, we get attention from big stars from time to time, and we review artists of all sizes and categories from all forms of music, but we don’t break news and apparently neither does any one else.
On Sunday, I went to to see Cliff Richard’s make up date for the cancelled Morrissey concert and near the beginning he mentioned that Morrissey was still in the hospital. I wrote it up, and Helen followed up with a think piece, and Morrissey-Solo picked up the story, which got the attention of Stereogum, which got picked up by Consequence Of Sound, and crossed the Atlantic where New Musical Express got it and Uncut (both owned by IPC) used the same story. Contactmusic.com used it and WENNused Contacts story. Music Times threw in “Morrissey may be quite sick” which nobody said anywhere. They also failed to mention us and linked to Stereogum’s story who also failed to mention us though they did link to us.
Neither brooklynvegan nor Pitchfork used the story, particulalrly surprising from the kinds of cut and paste (it is all they really do) brooklynvegan, though I assume they were ignoring the story because we broke it. As for Pitchfork? I’m guessing the same thing. Though it is kind of ridiculous, I guess you laugh in the their faces long enough they begin to feel insecure.
Two days later and it was all over. Our numberswere pretty got, between the lot maybe 5000 hits, so not the end of the world but not bad.
And now we are back to normal and the day we went viral is over!
