"The Bodyguard" Reviewed (More Or Less)

You know how sometimes you just assume you've seen a movie just because you've heard about it so often, you feel as though you must have seen it? Well, I was that way about "The Bodyguard"  Following Whitney's death (I'm a big fan) II tried to remember it and realized I didn't know the sucker. So I pay per viewedi it and I'm glad I did though I hated the movie.

There is a reason Kevin Costner hasn't had the career people thought he would have: he is a terrible actor. He has one mode, solemn fucker and he sticks out his chin and frowns and flashes her blue eyes and calls it a career. When he laughs, Kevin is so mechanical, so wooden, he isn't believable. He is a rarity, he makes you root for the bad guy.

Kevin plays the ex-secret service cum bodyguard hired to protect singer-actress Whitney Houston who has a perv stalking her and wanting to kill her.Whitney is a spoiled little pop star who doesn't want her life disrupted till she realize she's in serious fucking trouble.

So blah blah blah blah blah blah, Kevin nails her and she sings "I Will Always Love You" and Kevin saves her.It is  is overllong  and overwhelmingly bad. It is a horrible movie. Though it is fun to see Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet as Whitney's manager.

Anyway… yeah it sucks… except Whitney is incredible. Her eyes are slits, as though she is Asian, except they seem to be so narrow because her cheeks are puffy and it gives her a dreamy, sexy, just out of bed and ready to get back in post-coital glow for much of the movie. Whitney's performance is nothing great, but her presence is astounding. And she is so good she actually manages to give some sparks to the Costner romance. It is a must see for Whitney but that's all.

Musically, you know the hit and the rest of it is average to above average disco moves. Filmed in 1992, it is a touch old fashioned today. But not bad at all.
