In quick succession today I've listened to two bands perform acoustic versions of their own songs.
Superheavy's "Never Gonna Change" and Alesana's "Apology" -they are both OK if nothing great and they are both coming from the same fountain of cannibalistic, eat its young desire as the remix.
With the remix, an artist gives their song to bunch of DJ's who add bets of varying degrees of interest. It is a paradigm of Green energy; it is recycling a product over again.
So is the acoustic version.
There may be more ego involved in the acoustic version, it is as if to say, yeah, I hooked you with the sweeteners but if I take em out you will still love the song so there.
That isn't necessarily true.
Slowing down and over singing isn't gonna make a bad song better, it is going to make it longer. That was the problem with Unplugged of course. Unless your name was Nirvana, you were adding squat to the proceedings anyway. Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Elton John all gave their worse.
As far as these two guys are concerned. U guess it is better than the inevitable remixes.
