In 2011, one of my favourite bands of all time broke up- The Academy Is…
TAI… consisted of William Beckett, Mike Carden, Adam Siska, Andy Mrotek, and Michael Guy Chislett. They released three albums throughout the course of their eight year career. Almost Here, Santi, and Fast Times At Barrington High and the EP Lost In Pacific Time were all incredible releases that had heartfelt lyrics, pumping rhythms and wondrous musicianship.
On the band's official website, there's a message that announced the breakup, The last part of it reads "The music we have made is our gift to you. From this point on, The Academy Is… belongs to you. Feel free to listen. Listen as loud as you'd like." As sad an announcement it is, it makes me happy that I got a chance to see them before they split.
It came as such a shock when they broke up and I couldn't believe it. It's painful to see that the band still updates their Facebook page every once and a while because it sparks the feeling that I just want them back together, and now. They went so far in their career and had so much potential to take it up to the next level. Knowing that they're never going to get back together is unfortunate and it really makes me sad. It's such a shame considering they were such an inspiration to me.
