Death:Omar Sharif, the poster boy for pre-Ayatollah Khomeini Middle East fervor, the blue eyed, bridge playing, womanizing, Zhivago starring superstar of the 60s and 70s died years after his movies were banned and then unbanned for kissing a Jewish woman on screen. The movie? “Funny Girl”.

More Death: A couple of months after he was so good in “The Visit”, Nicholas Nickleby himself, Roger Rees, died suddenly at the age of 71.

Live: The 4Knots festival at Pier 84 was a real goodie, band after band after band on art rock guitarists onan evening good enough for framing. Nothing but good things.

Recorded: What a crappy week, maybe it was the new release day that hurt, but I was not amused in the slightest. I guess the Wavves-Cloud Nothings album was pretty good…

Sports: The Yanks took two out of three and six out of seven so far this year off the hapless Red Sox and are firmly ensconced at first.

New York: Congrats to the New York Post for bashing the Mayor once too often and making people take a second look after giving up on the man mid-June. His turning point where was the murder rates were released for the year and they were DOWN for the year.

World: US and Iran have been close to a deal whereby sanctions are lifted and Iran modifies its nuclear aims. If it is a strong deal, that should cement President Obama’s reputation as one of our great Presidents.
