WEEK EIGHT
Weather: the harshest winter I can remember living through continues with a cold snap that has left even the thieves and murderers unwilling to brave the weather and all of us stranded in our apartments and houses. God help the homeless, deadly cold and brutal loneliness.
Live:with the NBA All Star game at MSG and fashion week in full swing, New York City was the center of the media world, again. West performed an outdoor concert, showed up at the Snoop-Diddy gig, introduced his sneakers to an unsuspecting public and played live at the SNL 40 show. Meanwhile, McCartney played at Irving Plaza on Valentine’s Day.
Recorded: a good week with fine new releases from Drake, Rhiannon Giddens, Martin Sexton, Lil Snupe and more.
Tickets: The Best Buy D’Angelo gig went on sale, along with Rhiannon, Ty Segall, Natalie Prass and Courtney Barnett concerts.
Television: The 40th Anniversary SNL Special was very funny and very very star studied. All four musical guests were first rate.
Politics: Libya, Jordan, and Egypt, are bombing ISIS as I write. Translation, they don’t want to have to learn Farsi.
Death: 60 minutes correspondent Bob Simon, a Jewish man, spent a month in the clutches of Saddam Hussein in 1991 and survived, it took a New York limo driver to kill him.
