Where are my props? That's a line for when I feel people are not grateful for all that I do for them! A sort of in joke that but rock nyc has to give its props as well and what I am most gratefil for is that what I like doing most, writing, is the most democratic form of self expression on earth.
It is not enough to say anybody can write, everybody MUST WRITE. Look at it this way: you can have a very successful life and never learn how to play a guitar. People do it all day long. But what kind of life can you have if you don't know how to write?
And so while rock nyc appears to be about music it is secretly about writing. And what I enjoy most is posting the work of someone like Cathy Dupuis who might not normally share her gifts with the world. Or Mary Magpie, who was only 12 years old when she first wrote for us, those are the things, certainly not the money which is non existent, that I give thanks for.
And Alyson Camus, who left a comment on one of my best posts two years ago and has handled the West Coast for us ever since!
Special thanks to: Joseph and Donna McElroy, who I seldom get to see but who are family to me and my co-editor Helen Bach who I admired greatly and teaste mercilessly.
But mostly to all the writers who care enough to think about what they feel and write it down because I have asked them to and because they want to share their feelings.
