Arnold: Who’s Laughing Now?

Imagine a brutal dystopian and violently ridiculous  the “Back To The Future” franchise with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Christopher Lloyd role, and you have an idea about how your reaction to the bizarre fifth installment of the Terminator series, “Genisys” a reboot of the Terminator with Sarah O’Connor (Emilia Clarke) being protected by James Cameron’s killer machin the titular Terminator aka Arnold aka a T-800, reprogrammed to save Sarah without whom Skynet -evil robots, will destroy mankind. Over and over again.

Working through two timelines,  Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), travels back from 2029 to 1984 to save Sarah who doesn’t need saving because of a change in timelines. Then they all go off to save the world in 2017.

Confused? You won’t be, it isn’t brain surgery to figure out the timelines though it might be to give a damn about them. If you’ve spent your life listening to hip hop, you might seriously consider never taking lyrics too seriously any more and that;s the only way to take this silly piece of nonsense. It isn’t serious, and despite a stellar performance by Schwarzenegger , so deadpan it ends up being a movie saving tour de force, it isn’t very good, though, really, neither were the previous two.

By the end of the damn thing you’ll realize none of it made the slightest bit of difference even within the Terminator universe. So, beware of # 6 which has at least this going for it, it can’t be much more of a waste of time for a movie that opens with its best moment: young and old Arnold battling each other.

However, the reboot might well be bottled after a disastrous $47M projected Tuesday-Sunday box office. It deserves the fate it will be dealt.
