Nothing Left To Do (Let’s Make This Christmas Blue) – The Both – Aimee Mann takes the lead, ted Leo adds hushed background vocals, the organ owns the track, the melody is lovely and the song is almost perfect Mann 101 – A-
West Coast – Lana Del Rey – You know Lana believes this to be the Summer Blockbuster movie of singles with extended lyrical breaks, tempo changes and way too high in the mix drums. And she may be right – B-
Built On Glass – Chet Faker – Aussie trip hop mood guy and very very good as well. This album works as sonic sound ambient deep beats thing and works as song, song after song. I bet it sounds awesome with beats: it’s like the percussion reverberates in the back of your head while the songs settle in the front – ALBUM OF THE WEEK – B+
I am going to go with Jason DeRulo even though I wasn’t thrilled by his performance at Jingle Ball because whatever you want to say about him being a pop manufacturer, he is a hit machine and a good one.
Let’s forget about Skrillex since I’m far from convinced even if you are certain, and let’s look a little further and study a whole lotta bands with important follow ups: The War On Drugs, The Pretty Reckless, the very buzzy and brilliant Coathangers (even if I wasn’t thrilled by em on stage), TBS, newcomers Perfect Pussy and let’s rest on The Both because it is the new Aimee Mann album and Ted Leo might not be in HER league but he is still in a league.
