Swedish House Mafia: Going Out On Top

They came they raved they conquered and now they are going away.  Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingross, the DJ's who have been going by the name of Swedish House Mafia for the past four years, and who blew the house door down when I saw em at MSG last year, are breaking up. A coupla more gigs, an Ibiza Fest an Australian gig and one more in August to be announced (I would be surprised if it was here) and then they're gone.

The MSG gig was amazing. It sold out (in 9 minutes)  during a Facebook presale and never even got to the great unwashed. I myself consider it a miracle I got a tix at all and sat in amazement while Americans of a certain age went completely berserk, though there wasn't much to do but dance and watch the light show. Since I don't dance, I just sat watching nothing much at all.

House is meant to be used, and really, the fans used it up that night.

"We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey, “We came, we raved, we loved”.

So why the break up? Steve Angello told Radio i's Pete Tong: "I think the confusion was because we didn’t go out with a big press release or 1000 interviews,” Steve Angello tells Tong in the interview. “We’ve had such an amazing run, it just feels right. We’re going to go out with a bang, and we just see this as the end of an amazing journey that we’ve done together as friends. It just feels right.”

“It’s so easy to stay content with the machine that is the Swedish House Mafia, but we’ve always been about challenging ourselves and doing different things. We felt we’d taken it as far – or even beyond – where we thought we could go with it. Maybe it’s time to do something different now. I don’t know what’s bigger than Milton Keynes Bowl or Friends Arena here in Stockholm. We didn’t want to end up repeating ourselves.”

Let's hope they choose nyc to say goodbye
