Bruce brought the "wrecking ball" to Met Life stadium Wednesday night. It was his first gig at the new stadium, which he reviewed about eight songs in as "This stadium is pretty nice." pretty, pretty, pretty nice".
But maybe the demolishing of the old place has given him a spell of melancholy. He came on stage to "Summer Wind" by Frank Sinatra, I jumped to my feet ready to rock for three hours of joy but after his first few songs"shackled and drawn" from the new album "Prove it all night" " the ties that bind" "hungry heart" 'we take care of our" and "wrecking ball" I was seated for a mournful set .
" Death To My Hometown" " My City In Ruins" and Spirit In The Night". There was a moment of silence for the past and a reminder that the our loved ones no longer with us, were right there next to us. Beautifully done but set a tone that was hard for me to shake off. Still Bruce pulled it off. With unbelievable energy- he is still crowd surfing and Wednesday night had some amazing moments of musicianship that I don't recall seeing previously. In "Racing through the streets" pianist Roy Bittan did a fabulous solo and in "Prove it all night" Bruce's guitar was on FIRE. A surprise of the night were a bit of hometown bringing out Vini (Mad Dog) Lopez the original drummer for " the E street Shuffle"
