By June, the choices for the summer song of 2013 should be in play and all I can here is “Get Lucky” or “Blurred Lines” , maybe an outside chance that Miley Cyrus can slip one through but it is late in the game and “Get Lucky” has peaked and that leaves “Blurred Lines” which is peaking at exactly the right time.

Robin uses his best Prince sexy soprano and T.I. and the ubiquitous Pharrell ride a very hook filled track, where every second line holds a yelp or a hey hey, and  all the syncopated beats are there not to slam it shut by to make it airy and sweet. This is such a good tempered track even the rap is good tempered and while T.I. is rapping, guess what? The backing track just keeps on going. This is a summer spirit, it is enormously good natured stuff and will be a blast all summer long because, in theory, summer time and the living is easy, and the track is just easy. Playful, “I feel so lucky you wanna hug me, what rhymes with hug me?”

Thicke has had the track since early this year but nobody wanted it. He couldn’t push it on his reality show “Real House Husbands Of Husband” but it didn’t catch on. Then a really fun video with topless models and the three leads against a white background went viral. Robin’s appearance on The Voice was the finishing end for all comers and this week it was on both the UK and the US charts.

So, here you go, rock nyc’s pick for the song of the summer: “Blured Lines”
