Remember Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, the wise guy pop band from Missouri who dissed rock critics on their fabulous “Critical Drain” back in 2010. The album was the pithily named Let It Sway and the album was a keeper, even if the odds and sods follow up, Tape Club, was the definition of a lousy idea.

Anyway, with the  exception oddly enough of Boris Yeltsin himself, Russians are a humorless bunch and so when the Boris Yeltsin Foundation came across the Missouri boys they decided to keep an eye out for them, according to Hardeep Phullof the New York Post. This lead to a cultural exchange: “Their visit to Yeltsin’s hometown of Yekaterinburg, at the beginning of this year, included a tour of the Boris Yeltsin Museum, a performance at a local festival and the chance to spend time with elementary-school children”

The band filmed the trip and will begin showing the movies at screenings; I went on to SSLY.com and they had zero info so I guess that’s still in the works. Meanwhile their new album Fly By Wire, is out September 17th, and the first song “Nightwater Girlfriend”(Grade: B+) is filled with backbeats and handclaps and you can listen to it on Spotify so g’head.

SSLYBY are playing Mercury Lounge on Saturday night which I couldn’t fit in if my life depended on it between Bruno Mars and The Bowerytones. But still, I would go if I was you.
