Serious illness does seriously fucked up things to you. As Robin Gibbs maneuvers through a life or death situtation, I wish him the best while noting his claim that bad luck follows the Gibbs Brothers (his twin brother Maurice died early, his little brother Andy died young), is interesteding but misguided.
Really? Were the Bee Gees exactly lucky? I dunno, maybe any time you can break throughthe noise to deliver the sound, synchronicuty has a lot to do with it. But switching from pop to disco? That was just sound business pure and simple.
Brothers tend to sing rwell together, and the Australian Gibbs brothers, are a mirror image of L.A.'s Wilson brothers, with Barry playing brian to the other twos Dennis and carl. And not exactly either. Maybe it is more of a Beatles story: Robin playing Paul to Barry's John.
Baryy was the best looking, anyway way. Robin has always been a nerd in hunk clothing. Buoffont hairdo and sequined jumpsuit..
They sang so well together.
From Massachusettes to "Nights On Broadway", Robin always taking the high ground…
The Bee Gees are a little like ABBA in that, their shallowness makes them hard to warm up to. They were never (ever -really, listen) serious self-revelation boys. And by Saturday Night fever, they were adepts at executing pop product. So they never really got the respect they deserved. In a world of beatles and Stones, they were second cousins.
But gifted second bcousins and time has improved the,m. Much better than Main Course, Spirits Having Flown remains a minor masterpiece… maybe more than minor.
So if Robin was lucky as in now paying for it, he earned his luckiness.
Let's hope he gets better and earns some more good luck.
