Some Did Like It Hot: Tony Curtis As A Jazz Musician -by Iman Lababedi

These are the stories that everybody had yesterday:
Kanye West pissed about songs leaking.

David Bowie’s new book

McCartney writing a not to George Michael dying

Tony Curtis Dead…  which isn’t actually about music…

Except he did play a jazz musician in one of the funniest and greatest movies of all time: Billy WIlder’s “Some Like It Hot”.

Curtis and Jack Lemmon dress in drag to hide from mobsters in an all girl jazz band. Marilyn Monroe is the lead singer of the band and performs a “I Wanna Be Love By You” that will melt your popsicle in 6/4 time.

Marilyn has had problem relationships with jazz musicians and has sworn off em, so Curtis, goes from dressing in drag to pretending to be a millionaire to deuce Marilyn.

Curtis is great. And MM is right about musicians (she is also right about writers: we are such loners we are probably worse but in a different way).

And Jack Lemmon is as good as either by the way.

RIP Tony.
