Next Tuesday the new album by Clem Snide -a sorta semi-popular electro song band from Boston who have been around since the 90s will be releasing their newbie The Meat Of Life. I streamed it on npr.com and I am quite impressed. It sounds like a simply but eagerly produced pop stroke of the first order.
The title track is a touch too earnest for me but everything about the albumn appears so intense, so interested, it is wild too think of it being their seventh album. “Denise”, the second is a shimmering, old fashioned love song, with a hidden synth riff somewhere in it and, I guess like their hidden roots has a low loud dynamic which, unlike the grunge era Clem Snide were born in, builds the sound upwards on fields of electronica. The coda is one of the best moments of the year. The penultimate track, “With Nothing To Show For It”, has a jazzy feel and a tortured vocal.
So I loved the album and figured I’d check out what else I had of there’s only to discover I’d never heard a single song of there’s before!! Not even the hit that was the theme for the show “Ed”.
So color me both impressed and embarresed.
Clem Snide’s The Meat Of Life is released on Tuesday.
