Singles Going Steady – Week Of October 3rd, 2011

1. Nevermind 20th Anniversary Box Set – Me? I preferred In Utero (and I prefer the In Utero outtakes Out Of the Womb). And as music writers go I have lousy ears so much of what is flipping out audiophiles means nothing to much. The main selling point is the Boombox rehearsals -8 songs undoctored, unmixed. Is it worth $40? Depends how much you need $40. Grade: A

Working In Tennessee – Merle Haggard – Merle's album have been a little weak the last coupla years but this is a goody; Haggard politics and ballads, and life on the range. Grade: B+

Best Intentions – We Are The In crowd – Power pop rocking out for the young girls. Pretty by the numbers.. but PRETTY by the numbers. Grade: B

Batman Arkham City The Album -S/T –  Soundtrack for the new album, a buncha second tier rockers and a synthesizer background from the game.by Nick Arundel. Grade: B-

Mayday Parade – S/T – Ho hum cutie emo rock. Grade: B

Beauty Queen Sisters – Indigo Girls –  This lousy chick folk gives lesbians a bad name. grade: C-

Radiosurgery – New Found Glory – Hallmark of a good band: consistency plus a great live show. The punk poppers have both and if the album doesn't move the story on, it absolutely maintains it well. Grade: B+

People And Things – Jack's Mannequin – Nothing as great as "My Racing Thoughts", the first single, but it isn't a dog either. Grade:B

Clear As Day – Scotty McCreary – Only American Idol could produce something this terrible. Grade: D+

Siberia – Lights – Not terrible synth pop from Canada. Grade: B
