Home _ Rudimental – Sure, this is the sort of EDM drum and bass DJ-y band the UK throws up the way they threw up chick singers a year ago. Close your eyes and it could be Calvin Harris or Disclosure. But the songs are a touch better and John Newman is a really good singer. The Emilie Sande track doesn’t hurt – ALBUM OF THE WEEK – B+
In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery – Indie duo take fluke hit single “Safe And Sound” and craft a fair to middling album around it with songs like “I Sold My Bed But Not My Stereo” -stereo? – B-
Blink Of An Eye – Frances England – San Francisco children’s singer songwriter has a genuine flair for melodic quirk. If it was an EP it would be major, as an album it gets old quick – B-
Down Fell The Doves – Amanda Shires – As artistically relevant and self important as its name would have you believe the violin playing folkie is too serious by half, which is a shame, because a song here and there makes it in the long run – C+
Yes, It’s True – The Polyphonic Spree – When you have a coupla dozen people in a band, you shouldn’t be this bland but these guys are. They are from Dallas but feel L.A. They should jon Edward Sharpe and start a two band Union – C
A Thing Called Divine Fits – Divine Fits – Wait a second, have’t I already reviewed this once? – D+
Presents FMIF Ibiza Mix 2012 – Cathy And David Guetta – Man, I am getting sick of this stuff. Maybe Daft Punk has a point. – C+
Walking Papers – Walking Papers – The thing about supergroup metal bands is 1. they have to be super and 2. they can’t include Duff McKagan – D
We Believe (Live) – One A Worship Collective – Just the worst modern spirituals imaginable. Unspeakable – F
Wrongdoers – Norma Jean – My own belief system has emo and new metal bands spending all their energy on song titles. Nobody expects “Sword In Mouth, Fire Eyes” to live up to its name, but we expect more than this – C-
Elvis At Stax – Elvis Presley – 55 tracks over 12 days in 1973. Not crazy about the material but the voice is missing nothing at all – B+
The Civil Wars – The Civil Wars – Now the folk duo are no more, I am happy to admit I underestimated their first album and admire these songs of ache and break immensely – B+
Greater Than – Tye Tribett – Well over the top Gospel but it has a certain power and redemption and wowness to it – B
