Sinatra In The Park Naming Names!

And so the longest winter continues with no end in sight. It just goes on and on and on forever and June 11th, the date where Sinatra takes the park, looms like a beacon of hope in the summer wind blowing from the cabarets of New York to the lawns of Central Park.

It won’t be long pop pickers, I can promise you that!

In the meantime names are beginning to emerge from Micharl Dorf’s rolodex! Let’s see…

John Pizzarelli and The Swing Seven – The great cabaret stylings of the master guitarist of swing. She probabl know him at least from those Mohegan Sun commercials – A+

Andrew Bird  – A talented fellow no doubt, but if he brings his violin to “The Best Is Yet To Come” I will not be amused C-

Marc Cohn  – The “Walking In Memphis” guy, I don’t hear it myself – C

Judy Collins – A folkie who moved her career in many different directions, including show tunes. Looking forward to hearing her – B+

Bettye LaVette –well, if Ray Charles can sing country, why can’t this soul belter take on Sinatra ? B

Joan Osborne  “What if God was One Of Us” Janis Joplin-y blues belter. Dunno about this one – C

Allen Toussaint  – The King of New Orleans will make it swing – A

Suzanne Vega – weepie singer songwriter, sometimes strident sing songwriter – C

Loudon Wainwright III – This guys roots are really really deep. He can handle vaudeville and he can certainly handle show tunes – B
