Shakira and Freshly Grounds “Waka Waka”: What I Am Listening To right This Minute by Iman Lababedi

Finally something good about Soccer!!!

As a child raised in Manchester I loved soccer but over the decades I became Yankeeized and now find it a straight drag.

So except that I am buying the World Cup on ESPN and ESPN2 for a client, my interest is non existence.

The only good thing is this KILLER song, with a World Music group called Freshly Ground “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa”)” is just everything you’d love about African music if you were a neophyte like I am.

The backing music is Cameroonian music but to an ear as untrained as mine is it fits well with all those South African (the Freshly Groud band members are from all over Africa, including SA) Paul Simon ripped off back in the day and is that a xylophone taking the solo/

“Waka Waka” opens like a Lion King intro circle of life crap but soon settles in and the clippy dancey melody is handled with sprite assurance by Shakira who has been on a bit of a roll lately!!

Why is this a plus for soccer? “Waka Waka” is the FIFA World Cup Anthem.

Should be HUMONGOUS.
