Seven Day Sonnet, a fun and ,band was in CT, playing at the Webster Theatre, for the first time ever. The crowd was really really into it, and I too enjoyed their performance. You could tell they had a significant fan base in CT, from the enthusiasm of everyone in the room.
Their music was a good indication that they had influences coming from all different places. Punk, hardcore, death metal and even a bit of alternative and classic rock. They all had phenomenal stage presence and claimed that stage for themselves, and you could see it from their faces. They were having so much fun up there and it was contagious. Everyone in the room was either smiling, bopping along, moshing, or a combination. Their genuine, pure sound had everyone captivated.
They played their most popular song “Hapless,” which holds a lot of meaning. The beautiful song is about a tragic suicide during winter, as frontman Benjamin stated in an interview with Revolver. It was obvious the band didn't care about their image and being cool, but it was obvious their goal is to make music that reaches out to all of their followers, and let them know that they can relate to whatever they are going through at the moment. When a band plays a very powerful song live, it can go one of two ways- a total bust, or positively. The crowd responded in a manor that showed they understood the song and its meaning, but they also wanted to rock out and have fun.
Despite some technical difficulties at the beginning of their set, Seven Day Sonnet still put on a great show for the crowd, rocked out, and blew everyone away. Not to mention the lead singer has a phenomenal voice that combined of screaming and singing perfectly, a difficult feat that he did flawlessly.
I would definitely see them again if they came around. They provided a friendly atmosphere and took time to make their set one of the best of the night.
Check out their song “Hapless.”
