Oxygen Tastes Like Patience – From Jupiter – Yes it has come to this. When Mary Magpie recommends a band I go out and buy a coupla tracks. This is off From Jupiture’s newly released (December 30th) No, Seriously and it is a breathlessly exuberant pop-punk romp with (and I seem to write this about every band when I begin to like em) an awesome rhythm section which has hijacked the song entirely and towards the end the bass player and the drummer have taken over the song and all you can do is move along with em. Pretty good lyric as well, “I almost lost my touch before I had my doubts”. Clever stuff.
Fortune – Midlake
The Vigilante – Judee Sill – I mentioned this song yester. How can something so simple be simultaneously so complex? I think that was Judee Sill’s greatest gift: she used her ability to arrange to help capture indelible melodies.
Who Knows Where The Time Goes – Fairport Convention
Imkrafenwald – Polka Francaise – Weiner Philharmonic – I am so brain dead when it comes to classical I thought it was a waltz. Somewhere between enormously entertaining and intensely irritation, the cukoo’s and the birds should be sent to KFC.
Copper Can – Falu
All Over The Town – The Kooks – This one really does deserve the Kinks comparison. Mike, try it…
Coffee Spoon – Spoon – Song of the month?
Blow S**t Up – The Kominas
Skull – SCreaming Females – I am working on getting an interiew this great new band.
He Who Dares Wins – Empire Falls
Chase The Tear – Portishead – Their fourth album is round the corner.
Reach For The Sky – Beth orton – A stunning song, it singlehandedly brought me back to Judee Sill.
