rock nyc's Mary Rudzis Goes To College

Mary Rudzis has been a contributing writer for rock nyc since she was 12 years old, when she interview the Rocket Summer for us, although she has had a relatively quiet August. Why?

1. Her Mom Helen Bach went on hiatus.

2. She was interning at the Hartford Current,  where she is currently freelancing.

3. She was readying herself for college, for which she left Sunday.

Mary is a fine writer and while our tastes in music don’t always connect, they do often enough for me to take her advise on sounds seriously. But more than that, it is astounding that a 12 year old child had the discipline to write on a weekly basis, often several times a week, for years on end Trust me, we’ve had many writers come and go here but very few have had the ability or the interest to write on and on and on. If you don’t do it, it is hard to grasp what goes into being as prolific as Mary has proven herself.

Also, Mary is a fine musician and songwriter and a listen to her band Jejune’d will prove me write, the haunted “Haunted” was one of my favorite tracks of last year and listening to it now, I may well have underestimated it. Her latest, “picotement”, is also her best.

On a personal level, I don’t handle change very well and I wish Mary was still that little girl who wrote for me five years ago, but change just is and I know how proud her Mommy is over Mary’s constant successes. As am I, though I have nothing to do with it except look at the last five years with a certain sadness because she will never be that little girl again.
