A couple of months ago I sent Mary Magpie the deluxe version of Taylor swift’s Red in the vain glorious and so wrongheaded idea that she might grow to love the great pop singer. She didn’t, of course. And I doubt she even listened to it…
It is hard to grasp that taylor is one of the great writers of the 2010s, she is too blonde and too shallow> she seems unable to do anything but, as somebody once said of Cleopatra, make noodles of her sex. Well, she might be all about the love but she is obviously a handful and Mary should give her a chance! Shouldn’t she? Alright, okay, no way, to quote Pete Shelly.
But Taylor would have her revenge on the Magpie!
In Episode 4 of “rock nyc Comes alive”, Mary reads my tongue twisting, multi-syllabic, run on sentence, Taylor rave review of her concert at Prudential Center earlier this year. For a breathtaking seven minutes of froth with barely a mistake. Well, except the ending where Mary appears to sneer as she reads the grade (An A!!!).
