My fave rock critic of the year who doesn’t write for Rock NYC is Chris Weingarten. He is the guy who listened to and reviewed under Twitter word count 1000 albums on his 1000TimesYes Twitter account.
Robert Christgau, PJ Wodehouse and Chris Weingarten are believers of the importance of every single word and that’s one reason I love Chris’s writing: he is brief to the point of transparency.
Another is that he goes his own way, questioning the status quo consensus writing where Stones, NYT, Spin, NME, Pitchwork seem to get together to annoint a different album every coupla months “That’s the irony of pop right now. Indie people have gotten so far up their own ass, that they’re missing chart pop and how good it can be.”
What he didn’t say but I will is that because we can listen to songs instead of albums there is no excuse for not sampling a little bit of everything and moving further into an album dependent upon its quality.
