Dimmu Borgir, your favorite Norwegian symphonic black metal band, has posted a new song from their upcoming album Abrahadabra to their MySpace page. The new single, Born Treacherous, showcases the Dimmu sound that the band has developed on their recent offerings—thundering guitar, lead singer Shagrath’s malevolent throaty growl, more than a fair share of blast beats, and epic orchestral elements. Yes, please.
Half of the fun of Dimmu, though, is their absolutely-over-the-top stage show. If you’re not familiar, we’re talkin’ armor, metal spikes, skulls, corpse paint—you get the idea. So don’t miss the video for Gateways, also off Abrahadabra, the band’s ninth album, where Dimmu shows off their theatrical side in another of their absurdly awesome music videos. While not quite as blasphemous as their previous video for The Sacrilegious Scorn (watch at your own risk, you can’t un-see this), Gateways is no less visually impressive and continues their line of high-budget epic videos. The typically black-clad metallers have chosen white as the color of the season, proving once again that they can make anything seem sinister, as if any doubt remained. The song and video feature guest vocals from Agnete Kjølsrud, whose haunting wail perfectly compliments Shagrath. This is a seriously catchy song, and while purists may deride Dimmu for pandering to the masses, it’s hard to argue that they fail to continuously put out entertaining material.
If you want to see the madness live, Dimmu will be hitting the road for an extensive tour of North America in November. Dubbed the “Darkness Reborn Tour,” Dimmu will be supported by Enslaved and Blood Red Throne. They play Terminal 5 in New York on November 8th. I know I’ll be there—just look for the guy not wearing corpse paint.
