Perhaps you recall the Silent Recording gimmick. Where musicians are recording dead air and you can buy it with the proceeds going to charity.
Great idea, minimal investment… seriously videotape the performer with headphones and a mic reading the paper or something and boom. All done.
I suppose we should be loving the ingenuity but personally I think its lame
So who’s on the UK side of this great collaboration?
Pete Doherty, can he actually go 4 min without a sound? There gotta be a cough or sniff in that time, The Big Pink, Billy Bragg and The Kooks all ‘recording (wink wink) on Monday for Silent Christmas. Enter Shikari, UNKLE, Mr Hudson, producer Paul Epworth and Jon ‘The Reverend’ McClure are already on board.
It is actually a cover of John Cage’s 4:44 -four minutes plus of silence.
Well, I suppose its similar to empty bowls fundraisers where you buy an empty bowl to symbolize hunger but silence?
Hope it has great pictures and I wonder how much space it takes up on an iPod.
The goal of this is to beat out X Factor for the #1 spot on the pop charts, just like last year’s Rage Against The Machine. Name of the band? Cage Against the Machine.
Who’d know?
