Popdust is probably my favorite music website, it looks like a dream and is wildly sarcastic and funny and fun. It obsesses over K-Pop and has better ears than Pitchfork; if Popdusts Top 20 songs of 2013 seems a little obvious, well, the whole point with pop music is that it be popular…

1. Blurred Lines – I don’t see that there is any doubt this is the song of the summer, but og the year? Close competition from “Get Lucky”… – A

2. We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus – Her finest moment is an ode to hedonism and rebellion – A

3. Hold On, We’re Going Home – Drake – I’ve resisted this songs charm but it is really an excellent soul groover – A-

4. Royals – Lorde – No denying the hook here – B+

5. Mirrors – Justin Timberlake – It is really two songs which is why it lasts so long… fortunately both songs are awesome! – A

6. Bound 2 – Kanye West – You know, he coulda made an album like this if he felt like it – A

7. Closer – Tegan And Sara – Wow, where are the plaid shirts and well bitten fingernails? Terrific sex song will do more for same sex than “Same Sex” – A

8. Applause – Lady Gaga – Lady Gaga’s astoundingly underrated ARTPOP’s first sing was better than “Roar” and “Wrecking Ball” combined – A

9. Body Party – Ciara – Smooth r&B – B+

10. The Way – Ariana Grande – This is a very good modern hip hop soul song but she was so bad at Jingle Ball, maybe the truth is she’s a studio confection – B+

11. Strated From The Bottom – Drake – The least Drake like song! Weird vocal hook – A-

12. Heart Attack – Demi Lovato – Catchy mainstream pop, love the verse but the chorus not so much – B+

13. Ain’t It Fun – Paramore – Really catchy power pop – A-

14. Best Song Ever – One Direction – If it is this easy, why is there only one of them?

15. Wrecking Ball – Miley Cyrus – It did the job but I can’t say I like this power ballad – C

16. Suit & Tie – Justin Timberlake And Jay Z – I remain completely unconvinced by this one . The tempo puts me off – C+

17. Power Trip – J. Cole and Miguel – Yeah, I guess Miguel is a talented fellow – B

18. Safe And Sound – Capital Cities – Bad rock song, strong beats – C

19. Heartbreaker – Justin Bieber – Bieber had a good year musically, his weekly songs was mostly triumphant, including this song – A

20. Roar – Katy Perry – Because I didn’t by the huge hook, the song never clicked for me – C
