The Playlist For Sunday November 1st, 2009: It’s Elementary

Juliet – LMNT – Taylor Swift namechecked these runn-ups from Making the Band earlier this week. If you’re gonna manufacture yourself a band (LMNT got their name from a contest in Teen People) it shure helps to write a pop confection as addictive as this one.

You Only Live Once – The Strokes
What Can I Say – Brandi Carlisle
The Prentender – Jackson Browne
Alpha Dog – Fall Out Boy – Cute pic of Wentz, Simpson, and their blonde tousled little boy in the papers today. This is better then the Costello one  or the French titled one from last year. It kinda sucks till three quarters of the way through when they come up with a fab break, “You’re not the first and you’re not last but you’re definitely the prettiest”.

Bad Romance – Lady Gaga
Sacrificium – Cecelia Bartolo – One of the two superstar sopranos currently working, this gorgeous song is being played with an orchestra who specialize in replicating the original instruments and sound. Her voice here is wild and this tribute to the castrati is something entirely original.

According To You – Orianthi – According to me Orianthi ran away with This Is It, this guitarist has the pop instincts, the looks and the chops to be major. Not sure if she has the song.

Think I Need It To – Echo And The Bunnymen
Broke Down On The Brazus – Govt Mule
Satellite Heart – Anya Marina
Young Lovers – Love Grenades – Stopped listening to the drums long enough to concentrate on the lyric, “I’ve got another love, but guess what, I’ll never love enough…” Maybe this downtown LA chick is a romantic…

Here Comes My Girl – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Rpcks Off _ Phish – I bought the concert online. Not bad but not the Stones, guess you had to be there…
