Did Frank Black really need to tell us the Pixies reunion was about a pay check.
He did tell us and we already know it was.
It’s like when a girl dumps you because she doesn’t love you any more and then calls you back to make a clean breast of things and tell you that there was another guy all along. Who gained from that? First you got dumped, then you got humilated.
Does anybody think these medium size bands who broke up and whose various members have had zero success and decide to reform do it for ART?? They do it for a pay check and why shouldn’t they. If you had to become a nostagia act, if you had to go on the road year after year after year playing music you have lost all interest in, you better have a better reason than “art” and everybody understands that and expects it. And it has its own sense of respect and it isn’t a million miles from what blues greats like Muddy Waters was forced to do: play for a paycheck.
Nobody except for the very, very popular made lasting bucks in the biz in the 20th century -it is always play to pay and today money is too tight to mention -if Black can make a millie for a years work he would be crazy not to. But then rubbing his fans noses in it is bad manners.
