Nearly a year ago I went to a very good hardcore show at Le Poisson Rouge, Ceremony were headlining but everybody involved was the cream of the crop. Just one of those perfect evenings you get from time to time. And the best of the best were Pissed Jeans. A band who satiric bite and tuneful horror show needs no introduction to rock nyc readers.
Late last they dropped their first single ”Bathroom Laughter”, since “False Jesi Par 2” in 2009, a song so great it hovers over Fucked Up and has em and everyone looking over their shoulders. The band is from Allentown, which more than just Billy Joel’s working class nightmare town in the song of the same name, is a rural area with a graveyard at every traffic light. A terrifying dark and miserable place. Unlike Pissed Jeans which seem to find the human lurking behind the gallows.
The new album, Honey is dropping February 12th and the new single “Cathouse” is on Pitchfork, BV, etc etc., it is OK but not as good as “Bathroom Laughter”.
The band themselves are playing Bowery Ballroom on April 13th, and if you give a damn about Hardcore or humor it is the concert of the season. Miss it at your peril.
