I only saw Solomon Burke once, around 2002, and he was opening for Van Morrison. And he was impressive , but then a man with a back catalogue that includes “Cry for Me” and “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” should be,
Though he was so large he couldn’t actually stand up.
A long, and very impressive career ended yesterday on a plane to Amsterdam where he died in his sleep. He is survived by, er, 21 children and 90 grandchildren.
I was just listening to the Stones sing a Burke song the other day…
