Last year I saw one of the most depressing concerts in my life, Peter Hook and the Lights playing Unknown Pleasures and had no intention of watching him kill off Closer later this year.
After first kinda getting the bassist urge to return to see these songs, watching it in person was something else again entirely. It was a cynical piece of crap and, really, disrespected both his and his band mates history. In Boston he let a would be singer pay him $10K to take lead on a song.
Lead singer of New Order Bernard Sumner claimed in an interview in the Guardian that this was the last straw: "There was a way back from that other stuff," Sumner said, " But not from what he is doing with Joy Division".
Hook replied "Bollocks" but I have seen it and my sympathies are entirely with Sumner. Hook is pathetic. he should join U2.
