Him and his wife, Sherri, now make music together and call themselves Perma. I remember seeing Say Anything live and Sherri came on stage for "So Good" because she does backing vox in that song. I thought it'd be so cool to hear them make a band together, and now they have! Both of them have beautiful voices and they mesh together so well.
They released "Knockout" today, and I absolutely love it. It's simply both of the Bemises and a guitar. I'm not a huge fan of female vocalists, but Sherri's voice is so gorgeous. The way that it is so easily overlaid on soft music makes her a versatile singer. Her singing is almost haunting, and especially in this tune; the way it peeks in above Max's is light and dainty. But as soon as it's just her singing by herself, it's powerful and strong and stunning.
Max's guitar playing is phenomenal. It isn't overbearing on their voices, and it's a great background tune. The way it isn't stereotypical and Bemis puts his own spin on it is what makes this song so great. Sherri's voice and the guitar weave together, and that's what brings this song the ethereal quality that makes it addictive and calming.
When two people in love make music, you can't help but be in love, too.
