I was happy to return to Under St Marks Theatre for another weekly dose of Penny’s open mic. This venue’s stick is rapidly rising on my favorite weekday chill spots list.
I couldn’t be more pumped to see Joe Yoga who was back on stage, full force playing us a new song. Especially after last weeks extravaganza, (post on Yoga’s at Pennys last week can be found in our archive), I was happy to see Joe back, confident as ever, ready for his 7 mins. That’s what is so special about this environment; its safe/comfortable, so regardless of what happened last week on stage, you go with the flow, and this week is a new week. Do not dwell on the past.
Next there was a guy playing the saxophone, accompanied by a lady singing. I loove sax, it is up there as one of my favorites instruments. But when this guy filled his cheeks with air to make the sweet sweet sound of the sax, his cheeks got so large that he was forcing his own eyes shut. This was freakin hilarious to watch. Very very funny. My friend Laura was in meditation mode for the entirety of this 7 min set calming her self in an attempt not to burst out in laughter.
We were in for a real treat when Bob Wiseman came up to the mic with his accordion around his neck. I had never heard of him, but quickly found out he has toured the world, like to push the envelope in regards to politics, and had a great sense of humor.
