Pay To The Order Of ……….. By Helen Bach

Bostons Berklee College of Music has released salary ranges for the jobs we all would love to have.
So whats a booking agent make? Top notch booking agents making up to $1 million or more per year; road managers rake in as much as $125,000 and tour publicists making as much as $100,000 annually.
That of course is the pinky ring set.
What about the regular joes at your local club? Road managers and tour publicists earn about $25,000 while bottom-rung booking agents are paid $20,000.
How about if you practice your art?  A Broadway pit musician’s salary is listed as $1,000+ per week “for the duration of the gig” and club gigs in Boston and New York might pay anywhere from $75 to $125 per person.
Hmm.
And this is most interesting
music journalists, ranging from $20,000 to $70,000 per year. However, freelancers pull down anywhere from $50 to $150 for an interview and $100 to $500 for a feature.  Editors?  25-100K.
Now if I add this up.. rocknyc owes me alot of money.
Ive always been intrigued by the Tour managers we meet.
When I initially speak to them on the day of an interview I always ask if they need anything. Think of it, your on the road in a weird town maybe you need some duct tape and cant find the Home Depot, ya know?  I’m nice, I ask
But looking now to see they’re earning 25k maybe I should offer them a sandwich or something.
Weird racket- I’ll keep my day job.
Heres the complete report.
 Interesting indeed
