It is not quite true that this is the worst season ever for musical guests but wht it absolutely is is the most boring season ever for musical guests. Can you imagine 2012 SNL even for a second letting a young Elvis Costello on the show, the way they did in 1978?
Indeed, cn you imagine them letting Titus Andronicus get a real big break and play the show? Well, imagine away because TA and certainly commercial enough and certainly WILL NOT BE PLYING SNL. Instead let’s bring back Rihanna and Maroon 5 for the 100th time. Adam Levine? Look I like the guy as much as you do but he is not repeat not the next Paul Simon. And speaking of which, what’s the bet we get Mumford And Sons up to the eyeballs for the next five years. Every damn album, back they will be. Live From New York? If you can call this living.
Why the rant? Because Paul McCartney is hosting their December 22nd Christmas edition (Martin Short is hosting… Martin Short? Was everybody in the Universe taking an early vacation??). Only two years ago, everybody at rock nyc were fighting over Macca’s lousy performance on SNL, and already we have to go through it again.
This is pathetic.
It is time for CBS or ABC to find someway to dethrone these guys, put fork in em, they’re done.
